NEW RELEASE : LAST ICE

Last Ice is many things, it’s part concept album, part mash-up, and part remix record.  After a short West Coast tour together Bloody Knives and We Are Parasols became friends and discovered they had many overlapping musical and artistic interests. Bloody Knives had a previously recorded album which they’d decided to shelve so We Are Parasols suggested that they take tracks from that record and rearrange them, adding new parts, remix them, and build something new. Preston and Jake agreed but thought it should be more of a full collaboration with them deconstructing and rebuilding We Are Parasols songs too. Since We Are Parasols didn’t have any unreleased material they handed over all the tracks to the 2018 EP, No Center Line. Interestingly, the deeper they dug into each other’s source material they found layers of common themes and intersecting story lines within the songs. After a few months Bloody Knives had turned 4 original We Are Parasols songs into 5 brand new tracks and We Are Parasols drastically reshaped 5 Bloody Knives songs to create a 10 track album. The end result has a cohesive sound and seamless flow, weaving between abstract electronics, ambient darkwave, industrial-gaze, and surprising moments of near-pop.

Last Ice is a wonderful mix of industrial-tinged shoegaze with plenty of goth elements thrown in as well. The darkwave aesthetic leads to a lot of pop sensibilities, but we don’t hear the group delve into too much lo-fi sound, mostly opting for lush, clear textures.
