NEW RELEASE : WE ARE PARASOLS - MY HEART IS ALL BLURRED

“My Heart is all Blurred,” the first single from the new We Are Parasols album, Body Horror, is out now!

I have been waiting so long for this to be out in the world. I'm very proud of this song. I'm proud of the entire Body Horror album but this particular song was one of the most difficult of my career to bring to life. "My Heart is all Blurred" started out as the weirdest, most abstract, conceptual track on the record. It was originally called, "Our Data". It was about personal data and social media and technology and it just didn't work at all! But still, there was something about it that we just couldn't let go of. It was the groove - the bass and Alec's drum loop and the way Deb delivered the lyrics, even if the first round of lyrics I wrote were terrible! We drastically reworked the music four times, scrapped all the lyrics and rewrote them from the heart instead of that overthinking computer in my head. There's some very honest, personal, dark, and intense stuff in the lyrics. Somehow we pulled a catchy chorus out of the ether, almost fully formed, complete with dueling guitar parts influenced by Tim Farriss and Martin Gore. Once the writing, arranging, and recording was done there was a whole new battle to fight with the mix. But in the end the struggle paid off because I think everything about this song is perfect. We've been living with the final product for over six months now and I still wouldn't change a thing about it.
